Parata Systems selects Altruent Systems to build new data center in Durham

Durham, NC - Altruent Systems, a system integration company headquartered in Raleigh, announces today the completion of a new data center for Parata Systems in Durham. Altruent will continue to support Parata by providing IT staff on-site at the new data center. Altruent Systems, a diversified technology company, specializes in consulting, designing, and installing mission-critical corporate infrastructure.
With Parata's 2006 acquisition of McKesson Corporation's Automated Prescriptions Systems (APS) business unit, Parata expanded its corporate headquarters in Durham, N.C. The move integrated McKesson's APS products with Parata's flagship automation technology.
"Parata is growing quickly and required a solid infrastructure that could provide redundant power and cooling protection for its vital servers, and was scalable to support future growth," said Brad Thompson, Project Engineer for Altruent. "To achieve this, we used a fully integrated, scalable and modular architecture called InfraStruXure™ by American Power Conversion (APC). InfraStruXure™ is a pay-as-you-grow architecture that eliminates the need to oversize a data center or use a costly and inefficient raised-floor system."
To accommodate the growth in its data operations, Parata needed to quickly build a new 24x7 data center capable of serving as the hub for its growing information backbone. The new data center needed to:
- Offer capacity to: house and protect all of the company's vital data
- Remain online full-time to support internal operations and the company's automated prescription systems in the field.
"We needed to ensure that the project went smoothly without disrupting our operations," said Eric Clay, IT manager for Parata. In addition to the uninterruptible power protection provided by the APC equipment in the design, Altruent included a backup diesel generator by Generac. This redundant design provided multiple levels of protection to ensure Parata's data remained protected and available at all times.
